Sofie Stal is an interdisciplinary contemporary visual artist who lives and works in Groningen, Netherlands. Her work is often an interplay of jewellery, sculpture, photo, installation and video (performance).

In her work the human being is central theme, how people use their bodies as instruments and how people relate to their own bodies, but also to those of others. She has a fascination for the human body and an interest in science, vintage anatomy drawings and laboratory glass. She converts this interest into objects that are both autonomous and can be worn on the body, thanks to their monumental shapes. With her work she creates an interaction between the object, the wearer, the viewer and space. She asks questions related to physicality, connection with people and the environment. 

In addition to her work as a visual artist, she also graduated as a goldsmith, she gives a number of courses and workshops and she makes beautiful, unique jewellery in precious metal by the alias SOinFLOW.

Sofie Stal is een interdisciplinair, hedendaagse beeldend kunstenaar werkzaam in Groningen. Haar werk is vaak een samensmelting van sieraad, sculptuur, foto, installatie en video(performance).

In haar werk staat de mens centraal, hoe de mens het lichaam als instrument gebruikt en hoe de mens zich relateert tot zijn eigen lichaam, maar ook van die van de ander. Ze heeft een fascinatie voor het menselijk lichaam en interesse in wetenschap, oude anatomieplaten en laboratorium glas. Deze interesse zet ze om in objecten die zowel autonoom zijn als op het lichaam gedragen kunnen worden, door hun monumentale vormen. Met haar werk creëert ze een interactie tussen object, drager, beschouwer en de ruimte. Stelt ze vragen met betrekking tot lichamelijkheid, verbondenheid van mensen en de relatie van mens en natuur.

Naast haar werk als beeldend kunstenaar is ze ook afgestudeerd als edelsmid, geeft ze een aantal cursussen en workshops en maakt ze onder de naam SOinFLOW unieke, handgemaakte sieraden in edelmetaal.
